Allison Ancient

Allison Ancient

The name Allison was first used by two sons of Alexander McAlister of Loupe,  who moved with some of their followers to the parish of Avondale in Lanarkshire.  The name can be traced back a considerable time in the various spellings.  The earliest being that of Patrick Allisonne del Conte de Berwyk in 1298. The Allison tartan first appeared in the late nineteenth century and was registered in 1882.  The setting used by Lochcarron is only one of two offically recognized settings.  Both settings were registered in 1882 and therefore both can be considered authentic.
