Hay & Leith Modern

Dating back to around 1819, this tartan was designed by Wilsons of Bannockburn and was known as the Leith tartan. By 1830, it became the Hay & Leith tartan to represent the marriage between the two families. The tartan is now more commonly recognised as a Clan Hay tartan. Clan Hay has played an important role in Scottish history and politics, with members found in most parts of Scotland. The clan descends from the Norman family of de la Haye, and the progenitors of the Scottish clan were William II de Haya and his wife, Eva of Pitmilly.
