MacIvor Modern

Known as the Clan Ivor Glassary, the MacIvors, at an early date, possessed lands in Argyll. They claim to have formed part of the army of King Alexander II which conquered Argyll in 1221. For a time the clan lost its strength and some members migrated to Lochaber and other parts of the Highlands. By the 16th century they increasedd in strength and the Lergachonzie branch was the most prominent. In the late 17th century the 10th Earl of Argyll restored the MacIvor estates to the chief on condition that he and his heirs took the name Campbell. This the Argyllshire MacIvors appeared to have done but the Highland MacIvors continued to use their own name. Badges - Bog Myrtle, Fir Club Moss
