Nova Scotia Canadian
This tartan was to become the first officially recognized Canadian Provincial tartan being approved by Lieutenant Governor in Council in September 1955. It was also the first tartan to be recorded in the books of the Court of the Lord Lyon.
It was designed by a lady called Mrs Douglas Murray President of the Halifax N.S. Weavers Guild in 1953 as a neutral back drop for a farming exhibition.
The tartan was inspired by the Flag of Nova Scotia which is a reverse of the Scottish Saltire with the Royal Standard superimposed
