This tartan was designed to commemorate St Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint. St Patrick was born Maewyn Succat around 390 AD in the British Isles and only became Patrick when he was ordained as a priest. At age 16, he was kidnapped from Britain and taken to Ireland as a slave, eventually escaping 6 or 7 years later. God's voice told him the time was right to escape, and afterwards, he became highly religious, returning to Ireland to spread the faith of Christianity. Having a strong influence on the people of Ireland, he became their patron saint.
