Stirling & Bannockburn
A tartan pattern appeared in the Dundee Museum, simply labelled STIRLING & BANNOCKBURN, accompanied by a note on its origin. It was produced from a formula contained in the Wilson Pattern Book from Wilsons of Bannockburn, tartan manufacturers in the 18th century. One of these pattern books was in the possession of Mr John Cargill of Dundee, who designed and wove the sample for the museum. The tartan remained dormant, in fact unknown, for 160 years, but is now recognised as the District tartan for the Stirling and Bannockburn area of central Scotland.
