Book a Mill Tour

For a truly unique experience, take a tour of our authentic tartan weaving mill. Follow our story as you weave your way through the mill. Your journey will take you through the manufacturing process from yarn to woven fabric, giving you an insight into how we create and make tartan.

Starting in our visitor centre you will you will learn about Lochcarron of Scotland and how we have grown into what we are today as the World’s Leading Manufacturer of Tartan and, some interesting and curious facts or maybe fiction about Scottish tartans. Then, follow the production of our traditional Scottish tartans and accessories by taking a mill tour around our authentic weaving mill and warehouse. Based in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders, we welcome you to take part in an insightful and educational look into the tartan design and manufacturing processes. Along the way,you will also learn more about Selkirk and its tradition of textile manufacturing. Our knowledgeable guides will accompany you around the mill, taking you from the initial dyeing of our yarns to cloth being inspected and mended by our darners. See just how we work at Lochcarron with tradition, quality and craftsmanship at the forefront of our brand.

From designing and manufacturing to catwalk collections you truly experience an authentic working Scottish textile mill.  As the World’s Leading Manufacturer of Tartan we have designed and made many thousands of tartans and offer over 700  authentic Scottish tartans available to buy from our visitor centre in Selkirk.


Mill Tour by Appointment

Please pre book your tour by completing and submitting our booking form. Please allow at least two full working days prior notice to help allow us to accommodate your request. We will be in touch to confirm your request or offer an alternative tour slot if we are unable to accommodate your original request.

A tour will take approximately 45 minutes (covering a walking distance of 250 metres)

Tours are available Monday to Thursday between the hours of 10am and 4pm, last booking time 3pm. No tours are not available on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Please note we are open 50 weeks of the year and are closed for two weeks over Christmas.

Recommended maximum tour group size 8 people plus guide however, we are happy to quote for larger parties please email or telephone 01750 726100.
