The Process of Designing your own Tartan

We are proud to offer a premium tartan design service for our customers. Inspired by your design brief, our expert design team will create a selection of tartans using a fast and effective CAD system. ScotWeave© allows a seamless design to production process, while letting you visualise your tartan design through a print out.

Together, you will be able to create a unique design incorporating the traditional craft of tartan and weaving, with a contemporary twist! Whether it is to strengthen your brand identity or add a touch of personalisation to your wedding, we are here to help.

The process of bringing your tartan design to life requires a broad range of skills and expertise throughout each stage. Your design will pass through the hands of many skilled individuals to ensure a dependable and trustworthy service you can rely on. The Development of your Tartan 

1. Help our design team scope the scale and core ideas of your design project by completing our Design Brief form. Introduce us to any ideas and information you have for your tartan and send it through to hello@lochcarron.com to get started. Please click here to download our Tartan Design Service Brief Form.

2.  After receiving your design brief, the ideas and creativity will start in our design studio. Quality, colour and pattern will be developed during the design stage. Our experienced design team are here to guide you through the process of idea development. Get in touch if you would like to visit our design studio to discuss and explore the possibilities that come with designing a tartan.

3. Print out designs and yarn cuttings will be presented to you for review. After selecting your favourite design and discussing any amendments to be made with a member of our team, a final print out will be sent to you for approval.

4. Once the design has been approved, our team will be able to advise quantities of cloth and lead times for the production process. -Please note that production times can vary throughout the year.

5. See your design come to life as it flows through our authentic weaving mill. With high quality craftmanship and textile heritage at the forefront of our brand, we take pride in our traditional manufacturing process. Request to have your design filmed as it carefully moves through traditional production techniques. 

6. When your tartan has been woven, a member of our team will be in touch to discuss the next stages. Whether it be sent out to you; made into a selection of our made-to-measure products; or kept in our warehouse.

7. Register your place in history with The Scottish Register of Tartan. Our team are here to help ensure its place in history, or you can request for a member of our team to register your tartan on your behalf at a charged cost. - Please note that if registration is important to the project, we recommend registering the design before it is woven.
