Forbes Ancient

For over 800 years the house of Forbes has been settled in Aberdeenshire. During the Scottish War of Independence Alexander Forbes died defending Urquhart Castle against King Edward I of England. There are some very important branches of the clan, probably the most famous being that of Culloden which dates from the 15th century. Duncan Forbes of Culloden, an eminent lawyer and statesman, became Lord President of the Session and spent his life in the service of the Government. During the 1745 Rising he exerted his influence upon the Highland Clans and prevented or persuaded, many of them to forsake the Jacobite cause. In his native Inverness he was dubbed "King Duncan" because of the tremendous power he possessed. Castle Forbes, Aberdeenshire, is the seat of the Baron Forbes. Badge - Broom.
