Inverness Modern

The Inverness tartan is said to have been designed around 1822 for HRH Duke of Sussex, who was also the Earl of Inverness, named in honour of his Scottish title. It was the first tartan to appear as a colour illustration in any book on tartans. This tartan’s link to the city of Inverness in the highlands of Scotland makes it appropriate to use as a district tartan for the area and all hailing from the region.
