Kinnaird Ancient

The name Kinnaird originated in the barony of Kinnaird in Perthshire, Central Scotland. The earliest name on record is Radulphus Rufus, a Norman Nobleman, who received the charter of the land in the Carse of Gowrie, Perthshire, in around 1180 from William the Lion, King of Scotland (1165 - 1214). It is from this time that the surname Kinnaird was assumed. In 1296, Rauf de Kynnard, great-grandson of Radulphus Rufus and a Scottish baron, signed the Ragman Roll at Kincardine, Scotland, to swear his allegiance to Edward I of England.
