Morgan Ancient

Morgan Ancient

It seems that the Scottish Morgans were of the same race as the MacKays, descending from Morgund of Pluscarden, a cadet of the old Royal House of Moray. Those of the clan who went north under Malcolm IV became the MacKays. The name Morgan comes from the early Celtic ÒSea-BrightÓ and is found also in Cornish, Breton and Welsh. For a long time it was found in Scotland only in the north-east. Gradually then the Morgans spread south. Morgan of Glenesk in Forfarshire rendered homage in 1296. Later, Morgans were found all down the coast, including Fife. The British monk, Pelagius, who was responsible for the Pelagian Heresy, was called, in his own tongue, Morgan.
