Napier Blue

The Napiers claim to be descended from the old Earls of Lennox and there is evidence they possessed lands in the County of Dumbarton in the 13th century. A traditional tale claims that for heroism in a battle one of the sons of the Earl of Lennox was given the lands of Gosford in Fife by the Scottish King, who renamed him Napier. The family has a fine record of service in the defence of Scotland and in their loyalty to the Crown. Archibald Napier, whose father was killed at the Battle of Pinkie, in 1547, was knighted in 1567. His son, John was the inventor of logarithms. In 1627 the title of Baron Napier of Merchison was conferred on Sir Acrhibald Napier, the loyal supporter of King Charles I.
