Spirit of Scotland Weathered

Spirit of Scotland Weathered

This district tartan was designed in 1961 by Mrs F.L. Bastedo, wife of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, to represent the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The tartan has seven colours comprising of a predominant gold to reflect the wheat, yellow for the rapeseed flower and sunflower with earthy tones symbolising the greens from the forests, red for the Western prairie lily their provincial flower, brown for summer fallow, white for snow, and black to signify coal. The origin of the name Saskatchewan is from the Cree Indian term referring to the Saskatchewan River, Kisiskatchwani Sipi which means 'swift-flowing river'. It is one of the last three prairie provinces, consisting of half forest, and half farmland with over 100,000 lakes, rivers and marshes.
