Grabbing the attention of golfers all over the world, The Solheim Cup is a prestigious women's golfing tournament that takes place at the end of August each year. Changing locations annually, Scotland was honoured to welcome the golfing tournament back on its ground.

In 2019, the world-famous PGA Centenary golf course at Gleneagles in Perthshire welcomed The Solheim Cup back to Scotland. Eyes were taking in the picturesque views that surround the course.

Designing the Tartan

Our friends at VisitScotland commissioned our design team to mark the 16th edition of the biggest event in women's golf.

Designed here in the Scottish Borders, the tartan interlaces two renowned symbols of Scotland together - tartan and golf- in celebration of the Solheim Cup.

The vibrant, traditional tartan features blue, red, yellow, and white. Altogether, the colours represent the Saltire flag, the U.S and European flags.

The tartan accordingly captures the spirit behind a world-class competition, the design represents the unity between the opposing teams.

Unveiling the Solheim Cup Tartan

Registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans, the tartan was unveiled in January 2019.

European captain Catriona Matthew and Scotland’s Minister for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing, Joe Fitzpatrick, visited us in The Scottish Borders for the unveiling. Our Mill Tour offered a deeper look into the tartan manufacturing process. As shown below, our guests also met our in-house design team who helped bring their tartan to life.
