At Lochcarron of Scotland, we were incredibly proud to support and weave Doddie'5 Tartan here at our mill in the Scottish Borders. Our long-standing customers and friends at Scotland Shop have, through their incredible relationship with Doddie, this year launched 'Doddie'5 Tartan’ designed in house by them, to support, ‘My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.’

This wonderful tartan raises funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease. We are honoured to have been a stepping stone on its road to completion.

Doddie Weir Tartan

The Tartan showcases four bright and bold colours, each close to Doddie and his outstanding career. The blue and white represent this homeland, Scotland. Black and yellow for Melrose Rugby Club. Black and white for the Newcastle Falcons.

Due to these locations having played a significant role in Doddie's life, incorporating them into this tartan was key.

Melrose Sevens 2018

Doddie Weir Tartan

The Melrose Sevens Weekend 2018 paraded the tartan in splendid fashion as the tournament’s ball boys were donned their very own Doddie Weir Tartan Caps.

Melrose in the Scottish Borders is always inundated with visitors who have travelled far and wide to be part of the annual Melrose Rugby Sevens Tournaments. Broadcasted on television, the local playing fields opens their gates to thousands of fans each year, therefore this event is a very important one for the rugby calendar.

The tournament in 2018 raised awareness for one of its former players, Doddie Weir. In 2017, Doddie announced his diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease.  As one of the most talented sports personalities Scotland has known, Doddie is about to face an even bigger challenge. Keeping himself well and raising awareness and funds in order to support further research into this disease. Sadly, Doddie Weir lost his fight to the disease and passed away at the age of 52 in November 2022.
